My Burning Bush
/I have to revisit this year by year …
… the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a blazing fire from the middle of a bush. Moses stared in amazement. Though the bush was engulfed in flames, it didn’t burn up.
“This is amazing,” Moses said to himself. “Why isn’t that bush burning up? I must go see it.”
When the Lord saw Moses coming to take a closer look, God called to him from the middle of the bush, “Moses! Moses!”
“Here I am!” Moses replied.
“Do not come any closer,” the Lord warned. “Take off your sandals, for you are standing on holy ground. Exodus 3:2-5 NLT

There is a “burning bush” in my daughter’s yard in Illinois. And it is ablaze with glory right now! So when three year old William and I came outside yesterday morning, we couldn’t help but notice the changes that seemed to happen overnight.
“It’s RED!”
“Yes, William, and it’s called a Burning Bush. You know what? God spoke to a man named Moses from a Burning Bush. It’s in the Bible.”
“Wow”
“We will read it later with Eli (8 y.o.) before we go to bed.” And so we did. And we had fun exploring the time long ago that God spoke in a bush!
That brief interchange and the glorious red trees and bushes we noticed all day and the story that night in the Bible storybook got me thinking of how there are Burning Bushes all over my life … every day. Am I noticing? Am I listening? Am I recognizing my glorious indwelling God, speaking to me in sometimes a small Voice and sometimes a dramatic One. But all the while speaking, revealing Himself … to ME! Little ole me!
That very morning as I was awaking, my Burning Bush had been a Word that had been engrafted in my soul long ago. It was just breaking into my consciousness as I was tempted to rehearse the overwhelmed-ness from the day before. But I needed that verse afresh for my day ahead … desperately:
“My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.”
So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me.
That’s why I take pleasure in my weaknesses, and in the insults, hardships, persecutions, and troubles that I suffer for Christ.
For when I am weak, then I am strong.
2 Corinthians 12:9-10 NLT
And He was and still is my Strength for my very real day.
What about you? Where are the Burning Bushes in your life?
May the Holy Spirit open your eyes to the glory all around and your ears to the speaking Voice. Amen.
