Growing Old with the Ancient of Days
/"This is getting old" was my early morning greeting to my husband the other day. John agreed. Waiting on surgeries and recoveries and at the same time being sick and relapsing were wearing on us.
I'm not bored, not even discontent [OK, just a little] but what can I say? It all was getting OLD! Why? Well for me it just isn't fun not to be able to do my usual stuff or go where I want to go (like to New Jersey to visit my sister on the beach before she moves to Florida!) or accomplish my long list of projects. Did you notice the "operative words" here -- do, go, accomplish?
And I know all of this is deeply affected by the fact that we are aging ... I am aging! And "aging isn't for sissies." I've heard that said more than once, and I have even agreed again and again.
Not exactly the best way to start a day. But then after this far from cheerful conversation, I went down to my "Prayer Chair" in the "inner sanctum" of our lovely guest room ... and I heard the Holy Spirit ...
He spoke to my heart from the place where He and I live together in the "inner sanctum" of my spirit ...
You are growing old with the Ancient of Days.
Wow! How arresting and profound and prophetic! I'm growing old with the Ancient of Days. Notice the operative word here: no, not "growing old," -- rather, WITH -- with the Ancient of Days.**
The awesome life changing truth is that I am united with the Living God through faith in my Lord Jesus Christ.** Now a new aspect of that beloved truth has been given to my heart and life in this latter stage of life -- I am in union with the Ancient of Days, the One who always was, always will be, and always remains the same. His goings forth have been from eternity. He rules over His eternal Kingdom of which I'm a part. So my little self who lives in time, always changing, always "wasting away," always "growing older" is united to the Unchanging, Outside of Time, Eternal One. Could it be then that I'm aging, but I'm not aging?
I'm aging, growing old, united with the Ancient of Days.
And this is where I am "parked" in my meditation, and this is what I am experiencing:
Therefore we do not lose heart, but though our outer man is decaying, yet our inner man is being renewed day by day. For momentary, light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison, while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen; for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal. 2 Corinthians 4:16-18 NASB
Now take a deep breath, my friend. You too are aging (no matter your present age), but if you are "in Christ" you too have been aging united with the Ancient of Days. Isn't that the most amazing thought? See if you can wrap your mind around it.
And why not enjoy this song with me ... one from the past that I had totally forgotten. Worship the Ancient of Days in Whom you live and move and have your being. Amen.
Oh, yes
Blessing and honor, glory and power
Be unto the Ancient of Days
From every nation, all of creation
Bow before the Ancient of Days
Every tongue in heaven and earth shall declare Your glory
Every knee shall bow at Your throne in worship
You will be exalted, oh God
And Your kingdom shall not pass away
Oh, Ancient of Days
Oh, blessing and honor, glory and power
Be unto the Ancient of Days
From every nation - spoken
From every nation, all of creation
Bow before the Ancient of Days
Every tongue - spoken
Every tongue in heaven and earth shall declare Your glory
Every knee shall bow at Your throne (my Lord) in worship
You will be exalted, oh God
And Your kingdom shall not pass away
Oh, Ancient of Days
Oh, Ancient of Days

ANCIENT OF DAYS: (Daniel 7:9, 13, 22) – Found only in these three verses in Daniel's vision of the end times, referring to God as the "Ancient of Days" denotes His eternality. Unlike the four worldly empires of Daniel 7, which will crumble and fall, the Ancient of Days always existed and always will exist. Daniel sees the Ancient of Days with hair and clothing white as snow and with a river of fire coming from Him (Daniel 7:9-10).
