[Revised] Jesus Died FOR Us and We also Died WITH Him (Part 1)

Yes, He did and Yes, we truly did. Let me explain . . .

He died FOR us . . . for our sins, for the penalty that we deserve. He took our place on that Cross, suffering the eternal punishment that we deserved, so that we wouldn’t have to.

For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die— but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God.
Romans 5: 6-9 ESV

So our forgiveness is total and complete and finished, because of HIS death FOR us. Speaking of Christ’s once for all sacrifice, the writer to the Hebrews says:

For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified.
And the Holy Spirit also bears witness to us; for after saying,

“This is the covenant that I will make with them
after those days, declares the Lord:
I will put my laws on their hearts,
and write them on their minds,”

then he adds,

I will remember their sins and their lawless deeds no more.

Where there is forgiveness of these, there is no longer any offering for sin.
Hebrews 10:14-18 ESV

So forgiveness is achieved for us through Christ’s sacrifice FOR us. Thank you, God!

BUT what about the power of sin within that still harasses our souls? That’s where the second side of the Cross comes in. It is a mystery, and it is incredibly exciting.

In my next post (Part 2) I will seek to answer this question in a very practical way, from the Scriptures as they have intersected my own life experience. I’m trusting you will be able to identify; because, you see, I knew the truth behind this for many years before I really “got it” in my life experience.

Till then . . .

I couldn’t resist posting this — TRUTH to bring JOY to your heart and soul:
