A Benediction at Sunset ... Remembering with Gratitude
/From the rising of the sun to its setting,
the name of the LORD is to be praised!
Psalm 113:3 ESV
Sunrise, sunset
Sunrise, sunset
Swiftly flow the days ...
So goes the beautiful wedding song from the movie, Fiddler on the Roof. And so go our days, don’t they? One day follows another – sunrise, sunset.
And so has followed the days of our Gulf Shores family vacation — from early morning sunrises together to all of a sudden a final sunset.
At sunset, a new message emerges in that same fiery ball we saw at sunrise — gratitude. Gratitude for the gift of the day that unfolded. Gratitude for the people encountered. Gratitude for the lessons learned. Gratitude even for the hard things. All had been matched with His fresh sunrise mercies from our faithful, unchanging God.
So we say,
Blessed are You, O LORD God, Ruler of the Universe,
who has given us Today
with all its joys and sorrows
matched by Your abundant mercies.
We are so very grateful!
Sunrise, sunset
Sunrise, sunset
Swiftly flow the days
Seedlings turn overnight to sunflowers
Blossoming even as we gaze
Sunrise, sunset
Sunrise, sunset
Swiftly fly the years
One season following another
Laiden with happiness and tears
